Additionally, the retained mandrel acts as a tight seal to block the passage of fluids and gases into the rivet body.īlind rivets come in a wide range of material combinations for both the rivet body and the mandrel: Steel Rivet/Steel Mandrel, Aluminum/Steel, Stainless/Steel, Stainless/Stainless, Aluminum/Aluminum, plus some unusual materials including Monel and Copper. “Closed end” rivets offer an alternative where the mandrel head is retained securely inside the rivet body, eliminating the possibility of the mandrel working itself into an assembly where it could cause shorts or other issues. In the standard “open end” rivets, the blind rivet end expands and deforms around the blind side of the component and the mandrel snaps off and is discarded, leaving a clean, finished look to the joint. Blind rivets are inserted into pre-drilled holes in each of the parts to be joined, and a special tool is used to draw the rivet mandrel up through the body of the rivet. Specialty Non-Ferrous Washers (AN, MS, NAS)īlind Rivets are tubular fasteners intended for installations where only 1 side of the joined component is accessible, hence the term “blind”.Self-Drilling Screws with Bonded Washer (Metal Roofing, Sealing Screws).Bent Anchor Bolts: L-Bolts, J-Bolts, U-Bolts.Metric Stainless Steel A-2 Carriage Bolts.Inch Stainless Steel (18-8) Carriage Bolts.Tap Bolts (Full Thread, Metric) Hex Bolts.Tap Bolts (Full Thread, Inch) Hex Bolts.Stainless Steel (18-8, 300 Series) Hex Cap Screws.A307 Grade A & B Hex Bolts and Grade 2 Hex Cap Screws.Tri-Lobular Thread Forming Screws for Metal Applications.Tri-Lobular Thread Forming Screws for Plastic Applications.Thread Forming and Thread Cutting Screws.Miscellaneous Head/Drive Styles Machine Screws.Oval Head Phillips Drive Machine Screws.

#SHOULDER POP RIVET TOOL PORTABLE#
Saw Blades: Reciprocating, Hacksaw, Portable Bandsaw (Porta-band) and Circular.Twist Drill Bits: Jobber, Mechanics/Stubby Length, Reduced Shank.Custom Kitting & Packaging for Fasteners.Check that the sheets of metal are joined, and that the rivet is secure, and then try again on another part of the sheet. You can then fit another pop rivet in exactly the same way, or you can choose to smooth down your rivet, in order to get rid of any sharp edges caused when the pin broke away. You can then turn the tool around, and watch it spit out the pin.
#SHOULDER POP RIVET TOOL MANUAL#
Once the pin has broken, the manual pop rivet gun will pull free of the rivet and hole. This is the breaking of the pin, and indicates that the rivet is secured to the metal sheets. Repeat until you hear a popping noise from the end of the gun. Release the handle, and ensure that the tool is tight to the top of the rivet, and then pull the handle again. Push down, and pull the handle of the rivet gun until you feel resistance. Make sure that the rivet comes through both sheets of metal at once (you may wish to look underneath and check), and is not impeded. Push the head of the rivet through the holes in the sheets of metal. Release the trigger so that the rivet is held in place. Your rivet should have the pin facing towards the back of the gun, with the head extended between the teeth. Push the metal rivet into the tool as far as possible, so that the rivet is resting on a chuck at the back of the gun. Take your rivet in one hand, and with the other press the trigger, so the holding arms are open. Put two sheets of metal side-by-side and overlap holes so that you can fit the rivet. These can be ready-drilled, or you can make small holes in them using a drill. Rivets are made of light metal, and can sometimes break, so it is a good idea to be fully protected. Before you do anything else, you should put on your safety gloves and glasses.
